The Cab Calloway School of the Arts Instrumental Music Department has two Wind Bands, the Symphonic Band & Wind Ensemble, both under the direction of Mr. James Tharp. Both ensembles perform at the highest level for high school bands and play a large variety of music.
Over half of the students make the DE All-State Jr. & Sr. Band each year.
The ensembles are comprised of woodwind, brass and percussion musicians from both CCSA HS & CSW. You sign up for these ensembles when choosing your classes, and meet regularly during the school day. An audition is required to determine which ensemble you will perform with.
Both ensembles give multiple performances each year including the CCSA HS Band Winter Concert, the CCSA HS Band Spring Concert, and the CCSA HS Band Trip.
The CCSA Symphonic Band is one of two Wind Bands the CCSA HS Instrumental Music Department has to offer to the students of CCSA HS & CSW. The ensemble is larger in size than the Wind Ensemble.
The CCSA Wind Ensemble is one of two Wind Bands the CCSA HS Instrumental Music Department has to offer to the students of CCSA HS & CSW. The Ensemble is smaller in size than the Symphonic Band. This ensemble performs very hard and demanding music, much of the music being on a college level.

As a member of the CCSA Symphonic Band and/or Wind Ensemble it is not mandatory to be a member of the CCSA Spirit Marching Band but it is strongly suggested.
All members of either ensemble may audition for the Varsity Jazz Ensemble if they play Saxophone (Alto, Tenor and/or Baritone), Trombone, Trumpet and/or Rhythm Section (Drums, Piano, Bass and/or Guitar). This ensemble meets after school during the winter/spring seasons.
